Deaf Advocate, Performer, and Cultural Educator
Nakia Smith is a Black Deaf speaker, creative, and advocate based in Texas and California. She’s passionate about real conversations surrounding Deaf culture, Black Deaf identity, accessibility, representation, and making sure Deaf voices are truly seen and respected.
Nakia speaks on topics including Black American Sign Language (BASL), Deaf experiences in everyday life, accessibility in entertainment, and representation in film and television spaces, including conversations connected to the Academy Awards. Her approach is honest, relatable, educational, and rooted in real life experiences.
She has collaborated with campaigns connected to Apple TV+ and HBO Max while continuing to use her platform to bridge conversations between Deaf and hearing communities. Through speaking, storytelling, and digital content, Nakia continues creating space for visibility, culture, and authentic connection.
