During this speech, you will learn about not just what boundaries are, but tools for building healthy communication and assertiveness, how to build distress tolerance when facing someone’s boundary, and insight into building mindset shifts to reframe negative, fear-based thinking.

A Safe Space: Exploring Black Mental Health & Tools for Healing
Mental health issues do not look the same on everyone and this talk highlights how mental health impacts the Black community from a personal, social and systemic lens. This talk is designed to shed light on the impact of racial trauma along with microaggressions in the workplace and give tools on what we can do about it as a community, and not place the burden only Black people to educate others on how to be antiracist and promote community-care. This talk also provides practical tools and guidance for Black people to maintain their mental health and well-being through coping strategies and tools for building self-advocacy.

The Power of Social Capital for Achieving Upward Mobility and Building Community
In this TED-style talk, participants will learn about the critical role of social capital in achieving upward mobility, building strong communities, and mitigating complex mental health issues. They will gain an understanding of social capital, which encompasses the vast networks, relationships, and connections that individuals have with others, providing unparalleled access to resources and endless opportunities. Moreover, they will learn how to increase their social capital and cultivate community care by using their resources, power, and privileges to improve economic and social outcomes while contributing to their communities’ overall development and mental health.

Cultivating Belonging Through Community Care
When individuals feel part of a caring community, they are more likely to experience a sense of connection and purpose in their workplace, school, and other aspects of their lives. This can lead to higher levels of engagement and productivity.
In this talk, participants will learn about social capital – the resources available to individuals and groups through their social networks and relationships – and how to use it to build their circle of support. This talk will also provide insight into empathy as a skill to enhance connection, co-regulation as a stress response practice, and tools for combating loneliness through community care.
Self Care and Mental Health Inclusivity Advocate
Minaa B. MSW, LMSW is a licensed social worker, mental health educator, and author of Owning Our Struggles. A former psychotherapist specializing in anxiety, depression, and trauma, Minaa has worked in various mental health industries, including early childhood in NYC Early Head Start programs, private practice, and community mental health. She obtained her graduate degree in social work from New York University.
Minaa is also a wellness coach and the founder of Minaa B. Consulting, a mental health consulting practice that helps organizations develop psychological safety. As a mental health educator and coach, Minaa emphasizes the connection between mental health and social justice. She teaches individuals how to foster self-efficacy and enhance emotional resilience through community care. This approach acknowledges the impact of relationships in facilitating personal and societal change and assists individuals in establishing supportive and healthy connections.
In addition, Minaa is the host of the Verywell Mind podcast, runs an advice column called Free Therapy for Cosmopolitan magazine, and is a member of the Mental Health Advisory Committee for Wondermind, a mental fitness company co-founded by Selena Gomez. As an expert in her field, Minaa has been featured in various media outlets, including Red Table Talk, Peace of Mind with Taraji, Oprah Daily, Katie Couric Media, BBC, The Today Show, and others. Minaa currently resides in New York City.
